James Dow Art Director/Industrial Designer
An Artist with more than 30 years experience
Designing for entertainment and exhibition, Jim began with ten years as Creative Director at Paramount Studios working on major motion pictures in Hollywood. As Art Director/Special Effects he created designs for Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek the Motion Picture, Cosmos with Dr. Carl Sagan and many more. He spent two years as a designer at Disney (WED), creating portions of the Living Seas at Epcot in Florida.
In 1980 Jim opened DOWDESIGN Exhibitions in Costa Mesa, California. Still doing Art Direction for TV commercials, he began creating hands-on exhibits for clients such as the Hong Kong Museum of Science and Industry, the California Museum of Science and Industry, Los Angeles, as well as personally creating a major identity Sculpture for the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
Jim has spent years creating trade show environments such as a 47,000 square foot, two story traveling exhibition for LA GEAR, and large, traveling trade show exhibits for Head Sportswear (6,ooo sq ft), Ocean Pacific, MGM, Corel and many others. He has also created numerous sets for corporate industrial/training videos and "ride and drives" for major auto manufacturers Nissan/Infiniti, Honda/Acura and Mazda.
Jim brings his creativity and years of experience to the table as an artist and a fabricator, combining the creativity of the artist with the practicality of the builder.
